This position specifically exists to monitor the accounting programs of the College including student financial aid and grants. This position prepares financial summaries, reconciles accounting data, and documents accounting processes so the appropriate internal controls may be identified, implemented, and maintained.

Essential Functions:

% of Time

Assist the Controller with planning, management, and examination of all daily activity with Fiscal Operations including supervision and review of work performed by Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Cashier staff. Ensure procedures are followed consistently to maintain proper internal controls and integrity of financial data in compliance with applicable federal laws, Colorado Revised Statues, state board, college policy, and generally accepted accounting principles. Ensure all account reconciliations are completed on a monthly basis prior to close.

Prepare and interpret accounting entries for all college operating units as needed for accurate Banner reporting. Provide fiscal support for Fiscal Operations. Review and approve payroll entries for each biweekly and monthly payroll. Process annual compensated absence accrual. Analyze general ledger accounts including postings from subsidiary Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, and Student Financial Aid Systems.

Provide technical and professional assistance to the Controller in preparing schedules and information necessary to facilitate audits by state and federal auditors. Monitor due dates with the annual audit to ensure that all appropriate spreadsheets and reports are submitted to the CPA firm on a timely basis. Respond to auditors with proper documentation. Maintain historical financial records throughout the year in preparation for the annual state audit.

Provide accounting guidance and direction of staff where functional responsibility interfaces with the units operation; i.e. bookstore, community education, workforce development, financial aid, federal and local grants. Plan and perform internal audits as required, and establish internal audit procedures with the Controller.

Support the Controller by monitoring the Colorado Financial Reporting System (COFRS) transactions for general ledger, capital construction, and interagency charges. Ensure mirroring entries are completed accurately and timely. Assist with monthly reconciliation of the COFRS system with the college Banner accounting system. Assists the Controller with reconciliation of the G5 Grant drawdowns and other monthly or quarterly invoicing reporting requests required for various grant programs.

Assist with chart of accounts maintenance including backup attendance at the Chart of Accounts Review Committee meetings with the System Office. Prepare fund, org, and account requests as needed in coordination with the Controller.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Experience will be based upon a full-time, 40-hour work week. Part-time experience will be pro-rated. Part-time teaching experience will be based on a ratio of 36 credit hours = 1 year of experience.

Education:

Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or closely related field.

Special knowledge, skills, abilities:

Supervisory experience to include directing, evaluating and monitoring others work. Experience with subsidiary and general ledger accounting.

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. (Knowledge must be documented in application materials).

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Master’s Degree

Licenses or Certifications:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Experience:

5 or more years’ experience directly supervising three or more employees.

Special knowledge, skills, abilities:

Knowledge of government accounting standards for higher education institutions.

Salary Information

$41,000 base salary, plus additional compensation based on education and experience. In addition to salary, PCC offers an excellent benefits package which includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement.
