Associate Vice President, Finance & Controller
The Assistant Controller assists with ensuring effective accountability and custody of financial assets; is responsible for accuracy, integrity, monitoring financial accountability and compliance with internal controls, and applicable regulatory mandates including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations and reporting, as well as providing accounting and data systems assistance. The role is also the primary accounting liaison with the University Development Office.
Perform reporting and review for the University Development Office including calculation of amounts available to be expended, distribution of investment income, review of compliance with donor and grant agreements and reconciliations.
Perform review and reconciliation of all Government Grant funds, University Funded Aid and Endowed financial aid accounts.
Review payroll disbursements for compliance with University policies and procedures. Perform audits of payroll data for compliance with classifications, rates and benefits status.
Oversight and review of University cash and debit card accounts.
Prepare reports for Federal Work Study reporting/reconciliation.
Prepare, as needed and requested, financial reporting/analysis.
Test computer processes and procedures impacting Datatel ( ERP) and general ledger, to ensure successful implementation of upgrades and modifications. Serve as department liaison for computer system upgrades.
Assist with year end financial preparation: IPEDS Financial reporting, 990T Schedules, 1099s, 1098s and internal audits.
Design and maintain external and internal Web pages and related team sites on intranet for the Controller and Bursar offices., including maintenance of Policy and Procedure Manuals.
Manages one Staff Accountant.
Required Minimum Qualifications - Education - Experience - Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
Five to seven years of accounting experience, preferably a combination of public and private accounting. Experience working with non profits or higher ed institutions is a plus.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Computerized Accounting Systems experience; ERP experience.
