Assistant Curator (Manuscripts): Develops, oversees and interprets the manuscripts collection through acquisitions, exhibitions, original research, interpretation and publication. May verify value and authenticity of objects and/or make recommendations regarding the acquisition of objects. Ensures that objects are properly researched, documented, and installed. Participates in exhibit planning, design and fabrication and may conceive and develop exhibitions. May foster and maintain extensive, international professional relationships within museum and art collecting communities. Uses scholarly background to serve as a resource to visitors and staff and to advise in the development, execution and/or supervision of art education and information programs. The successful candidate will have experience working in a collections management system, reading skills in Latin and two modern foreign languages, conversation skills in one foreign language (Italian preferred), and a specialty in late medieval manuscripts.
* Applies knowledge of art history and art education to curatorial assignments of moderate complexity * Performs scholarly research * Coordinates smaller exhibitions * Travels and networks internationally to develop partnerships with other museums * Participates in the preparation of acquisitions proposals and makes acquisitions recommendations to the curator * Administers incoming and outgoing loans * Publishes and lectures in area of specialization * Maintains collections management system * Participates in photography of the collection * Monitors reading room * Contributes to the on-line presence of the manuscripts collection * Supports scholarly visits and requests
* Master’s degree in art history, art or art education; Ph.D. preferred * 2-4 years curatorial or equivalent experience * Reading skills in two or more foreign languages and conversation skills in one foreign language
