Qualifications:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Current nursing licensure as a registered nurse and or licensed vocational nurse in the state in which practicing.
A minimum of two year's experience in supervision.
Demonstrates leadership ability and capability to work effectively with all levels of personnel.
Ability to communicate effectively in English through both speech and writing.
Working knowledge of federal, state and county laws governing skilled care facilities.

Position Summary:
Assists in organizing and administering the department of nursing while providing quality nursing care and assumes responsibilities delegated by the Director of Nursing. If RN supervises other RNs, LVNs and all other certified hands-on care staff (CNAs and CMAs).

Essential Job Functions:
Assist the Director of Nurses as he/she instructs in the areas of personnel, orientation, supervision, and staffing.
Assists in supervising the assignment and scheduling of nursing staff to meet resident needs.
Provides nursing care on shift when needed. If RN, provide comprehensive assessments of residents as needed. If LVN, provide focused assessments of residents, including provision of data to RN for further actions.
  • Periodically checks resident's records and reports.
Keeps the Director informed of potential problems or problem areas within the nursing department with accurate reporting.
Review transcription of Physician orders to resident charts, with medications and treatment sheets to assure that they are accurate and current.
Assist in admission, discharge and transfer process of resident.
Make weekly skin assessment rounds with designated staff.
Work with the consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as directed by the Director of Nurses.
Review, update and revise the resident's plan of care for appropriate resident goals, problems and approaches to assure that appropriate nursing care is being rendered.
Assure that nursing personnel follow established infection control and aseptic techniques when isolation procedures become necessary.
Review resident charts for completeness and appropriateness of treatments and medication orders.
Review restraint assessments, pain assessments, oral assessment psychotropic assessments, and bowel/bladder assessments for completeness.
Check completeness and accuracy of intake and output documentation.
Participate in Weight Variance and Pressure Ulcer Committee meetings.
Assisting with the monthly checking and verifying of recapped physician orders to assure accuracy.
Ensure that nursing personnel are providing adequate nursing care in accordance with established nursing service procedure.
Follow up on correction of findings and deficiencies or Department of Aging and Disability Services, consultants, and Quality Assurance.
Review and evaluate nursing personnel and make recommendations to the Director of Nursing.
Assist in the orientation of new assigned personnel as well as supervise and instruct other nursing personnel.
Assist in the investigation of unusual occurrences or alleged abuse and promptly notify the abuse coordinator and Director of Nursing.
Ensure that all Residents' Rights are protected.
