The Northeast Ohio Medical University invites applications for Assistant Dean of Curriculum. The Assistant Dean will be a full-time academic position within the Division of Academic Affairs. This position requires understanding and oversight of curriculum content, evaluation, and performance outcomes pertaining to the courses of the College of Medicine curriculum. The administrative liaison responsibilities will focus on medical student issues, policies, and procedures pertaining to the Offices of Student Affairs, Enrollment Services, and Academic Services. The Assistant Dean will report directly to the Associate Dean of Curriculum and Academic Services for the College of Medicine.

Basic Function

The successful candidate will be a creative and adaptable collaborator responsible for all aspects of the curriculum. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to be decisive and think at both a strategic and operational level.

Responsibilities:
Administrative

  • Identify student issues and establish prescriptive intervention and remediation strategies
  • Facilitate faculty/resident/student development
  • Participate in all appropriate curricular, assessment, and policy meetings
  • Develop and participate in annual curricular retreats
  • Provide oversight for implementation of curriculum management and assessment committee recommendations
  • Collaborate with Course Directors
  • Provide oversight for annual modification and implementation of curriculum
  • Communicate with Course Directors and Associate Dean of Curriclum regarding identified areas of concern
  • Assure grades are submitted in a timely manner
  • Assure implementation of curriculum is horizontally and vertically integrated
  • Facilitate the completion of Course Approval Request Forms
  • Maintain LCME Educational program standards
  • Maintain curricular mapping
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Course budgets
  • Identify and maintain necessary curricular resources
  • Facilitate and Chair the curricular teams
  • Identify needs and oversee the development of policy and procedure for the curriculum
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs services regarding student, curricular, and faculty issues and concerns
Curricular

  • Develop and implement curriculum using varied learning strategies and educational pedagogy
  • Develop evaluation strategies
  • Provide faculty and student professional development
  • Link content to established learning objectives
  • Identify deficiencies in curricular content and modify content accordingly
  • Make annual curricular content revisions
  • Participate in curricular teaching
Assessment

  • Review overall student performance and curricular content effectiveness annually using standard measures
  • Link individual learning objectives to course objectives and to performance outcomes
  • Establish outcome metrics
  • Monitor NEOMED student performance against national norms
  • Identify performance predictors
  • Recommend curricular modification as necessary to assure high performance standards

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess a MD, PhD, EdD, or other terminal degree in a related field.
  • 3-5 years experience in residency and/or medical student teaching
  • Evidence of teaching skills expertise i.e. feedback/evaluations
  • Experience and interest in interprofessional education
