The salary range for this classification is: $2,441 - $8,028 per month.
This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.
This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
Candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Candidates must pass a Live Scan (fingerprinting) background check as a requirement of employment.
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Under the general supervision of the Director, Events and Donor Stewardship, the Assistant Director for Ceremonies and Events is responsible for planning, producing, and managing fundraising, donor appreciation events, convocation, commencement ceremonies, and other university related events. The incumbent will provide quality service for the university by creating a favorable environment for donors and friends of the university enhancing goodwill of the university. Individual will also be responsible for identifying target groups, participating in development of marketing and fundraising goals by applying creative entrepreneurial approaches. The incumbent will assist the Director, Events and Donor Stewardship in other departmental assignments as appropriate.
Minimum Employment Standards
Knowledge of: Knowledge of planning events, evaluating programs and services, and working directly with program vendors; Microsoft Office Suite software for developing, producing and maintaining various spreadsheets, annual and monthly reports, databases, correspondence, etc; academic structure of a four-year university;
Ability to: Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; effectively communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within and outside the work group; analyze complex problems and devise solutions; interact effectively with diverse cultural and ethnic groups; perceive the implications and potential consequences of various situations and to assess the impact of alternative course of action; perform all the essential functions of this position.
Skill in: Skill in the collection, evaluation and interpretation of data to make sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; problem solving;
Experience: Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible event planning experience which involved monitoring and coordinating various fundraisers and donor appreciation events.
Preferred: Knowledge of campus Financial System for the monitoring of revenues and expenditures related to various events; Experience with spreadsheet and databases, preferably Excel and Access; experience preparing analytical reports.
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent.
Education Substitutions: Specialized experience and/or training during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-to-year basis.
75% Plan and coordinate events and programs for constituencies, including but not limited to donors, community partner organizations, alumni, parents, students and campus departments.
20% Develop the Office of Ceremonies and Events as a unit of experienced event and special project expertise adept at providing a myriad of services relative to all aspects of event and special project development and execution.
5% Perform other duties as assigned by Director, Events and Donor Stewardship.
