Directly manage to conclusion all reported and outstanding claims and incidents in all areas of operation, and oversee management of worker's compensation claims. Analyze each newly reported claim to determine if it should be self-handled, assigned to outside counsel, reported to the insurance company or transferred to another entity. Interact and conduct claims meetings with senior members of NYU, legal counsel, insurance brokers, attorneys, third-party claim administrators and claimants for investigations. Negotiate and settle insured and/or self-handled claims.
Bachelor's degree and
8 to 10 years of progressively responsible professional level experience with workers' compensation claims; liability, property, and auto claims; underwriting and general risk management; and contract review, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (include unique competencies, certification, licenses, etc.):
Knowledge of New York State workers' compensation laws and claims handling procedures. Skilled negotiator experienced in handling self-insured claims, negotiating settlements directly with claimants and working with panel and non-panel defense attorneys and third party administrators. Superior written and verbal communications skills. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Knowledge of standard office software.
