The Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) invites applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Gift Planning. It is an exciting time to be at VCU and a great opportunity to join the DAR team. VCU is a major public research university with a nationally acclaimed academic
medical center and enrolling more than 31,000 students. We are looking for talented and energetic individuals who can help us reach for new heights in supporting the decision-making and analytic needs of the University. We welcome individuals with diverse experiences and backgrounds who will contribute to an already diverse
community of faculty, staff, and students. The core responsibility for the Assistant Director will be to recruit donors willing to
make deferred financial gifts to the university. This is a 12-month, professional faculty appointment reporting to the Director of Gift Planning. The primary duties of this position include implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program to promote and secure planned gifts; provide management oversight to the inventory of planned
gifts; manage a portfolio of prospects, including stewardship; identify and cultivate relationships with planned giving prospects; solicit individuals for planned gifts for the benefit of the schools and units; and provide expertise and assistance to school based
directors of development.

Qualifications: An undergraduate degree is required. The ideal candidate will have a
graduate or law degree; 5 years of experience in a planned giving position preferably at an institution of higher education; demonstrated knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations governing estate planning with specific emphasis on charitable planning;
experience in working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; experience in developing cultivation strategies; strong organizational and time management skills; excellent communication skills including the ability to
translate technical information and concepts into lay language; and demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
