This position supports the mission of the Department of Recreation & Wellness and will be responsible for administering a comprehensive Intramural Sports Program and serve as the advisor to all club sports. This position requires evening and occasional weekend hours in addition to regularly scheduled work shifts. This position reports to the Director of Recreation & Wellness.
1-2 years of directly related experience. Two academic years of graduate assistantship experience in the above areas can be substituted for one year of full-time experience. Must have current certification in First Aid and CPR / AED .
Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a related area; Master’s degree preferred.
Developing and implementing a variety of intramural leagues, tournaments and events to meet the needs of the campus community. Creating an semester events calendar including registration deadlines, training sessions, informational meetings, and captains meetings. Creating promotional materials to advertise events in a professional and timely manner. Engage with students daily within the facility and on campus. Occasionally traveling with teams to tournaments as needed. Maintaining a high visibility and accessibility to program participants and staff.
Advising and administering all aspects of the Club Sports program including policy development and enforcement of: Risk management protocols, participant eligibility, fundraising, travel, department compliance, discipline, and the qualifications/ responsibilities of the coaches. Travel with teams as necessary.
Overseeing student personnel including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, payroll ( ADP ), and evaluating employees as well as contributing to student development. Conducting regular staff meetings for student employees. Ensuring student staff compliance with all First Aid, CPR / AED and blood-borne pathogen policies and procedures. Coordinate regularly scheduled emergency training for student staff.
Coordinating a Sports Officials Development Program through recruiting, retention, and training. Maintaining current knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively perform and / or teach officiating for a wide variety of intramural sports.
Collaborating with a variety of units on campus including, but not limited to: The Student Activities Center, Campus Life, Residence Life, Orientation & New Student Programs, Athletics, and various student organizations. Working collaboratively with the Department of Athletics concerning field / facility use.
Overseeing the intramural and club sports budgets; providing oversight to club sports regarding annual fundraising initiatives, equipment specifications; researching and preparing equipment purchases as needed in compliance with university fiscal policies.
Assisting with the acquisition of grant resources for the purpose of constructing a dedicated multipurpose field on campus.
Developing and conducting assessment each semester to collect data and to measure learning outcomes for the student staff and participants. Analyzing data, providing written summary reports, evaluating findings, and implementing changes to program as needed.
Other duties include the tracking and maintenance of equipment, updating program manuals annually, adhering to departmental risk management efforts for all programs, travel, and facilities; assisting with the coverage of the university, department, and external events as needed.
Remaining abreast of latest trends in campus recreation through professional interaction within the state and / or attendance at conferences (pending avaiable funding). Maintaining professional affiliations and certifications.
