The Office of Academic Support Program for Student Athletes at North Carolina State University support the recruitment, retention and graduation of NC State student-athletes; provide a comprehensive support system that affords NC State student-athletes equitable opportunity to pursue academic, personal, and professional development and to strongly adhere to the principles of integrity, excellence, and lifelong learning.
Essential Job Duties
This position will function with a high level of independence with minimal supervision. This position has decision-making authority and responsibility for coordinating or performing a variety of administrative and critical decisions that directly affect student athletes’ academically. This position includes but is not limited to developing and implementing programs and activities for assisting and monitoring academic progress toward degree for assigned sports (Men’s Basketball and/or other Olympic sports), providing academic support, and serving as a liaison with other campus support organizations.
-Providing additional leadership and support for ASPSA
-Strengthen on-campus relationships with academic departments, developing new partnerships, and facilitate service learning opportunities
-Coordinating nominations of eligible student athletes for academic awards (postgraduate scholarships, Arthur Ashe award, sports specific, etc.)
-Monitoring academic progress and eligibility of assigned teams
-Meeting weekly with freshmen/at-risk student athletes on assigned teams
-Overseeing academic support plan for assigned teams
-Acting as primary academic advisor of First Year College student athletes on assigned teams
-Assisting in recruiting process of student athletes
-Communicating to coaches/athletic
administrators academic concerns
-Supervising and evaluate interns/graduate assistants quarterly
-Interpreting and implementing NCAA , NCSU and ASPSA policies and procedures
BA or BS degree/Master’s Degree
Departmental Required Skills
Experience working with a culturally diverse population and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations are desirable.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Three years experience advising student-athletes at the university level with a demonstrated ability to interact with students on a variety of issues and possess leadership skills.
