The Assistant Director for Student Affairs for the School of Media Studies reports to the Dean of the School of Media Studies to provide student support and to administer policies and procedures regarding student admission, enrollment, advising, and graduation. This full-time staff position also works closely with the Executive Dean’s office of the New School for Public Engagement and the New School University Admissions Office, and the Office of International Student Services.


• With divisional and school student support counterparts, develop and enhance processes and opportunities for student support and engagement with the School of Media Studies and the New School for Public Engagement
• Serve as liaison with University Admissions, Student Financial Services, International Student Services and Registrar
• Participate in admission recruitment activities for over 200 new student admissions each year
• Supervise graduate student advisor
• Coordinate department advising; train faculty and student advisors in use of Degreeworks and Starfish
• Respond to student inquiries and direct them in various issues such as waivers, permission overrides, internships, and independent study forms; oversee staff member who issues permissions
• Prepare transfer credit equivalencies and process registration overrides
• Organize the process for review and approval of graduation petitions
• Develop plans and processes for internship cultivation; networking activities with Career Services; engaging and building online student community; engaging and building alumni community
• Coordinate departmental participation in recognition ceremony and commencement
• Manage School of Media Studies student service announcements
• Oversee the maintenance of department student files
• Participate on divisional and university committees as needed
• Conduct research and special projects, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in an area of Media Studies
• Commitment to a comprehensive, student-centered environment that facilitates learning and student development
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to implement new university service systems and delegate time sensitive tasks
• Demonstrated success in project management
• Ability to work in fast paced, complex environment
• Three-five year relevant experience
