Position Summary

Assist the Director and Associate Director of Athletic Communications in all public relations, communications and media efforts for Brown's 37 varsity sports. Produce various communication materials (written, multi media, etc) and maintain frequent communication with coaches, student-athletes, media, alumni, parents and donors. Supervise, hire and train event (professional and student) workers. All department employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League and ECAC rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the department are to be reported to the appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test and maintain current AED/CPR certification (certification is available at no cost through the Department of Athletics).

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required. - 2-3 years experience in communications/marketing/journalism in collegiate athletics at a university/college and/or conference level preferred. - Experience with video editing software helpful. - Experience with social and new media helpful. - Experience with in-game statistical programs helpful. - Working knowledge of computers (Mac and PC); Must be proficient in InDesign & Photoshop or have demonstrated ability to learn Adobe Creative Suite programs. - Familiarity with website maintenance. - Self-starter - Strong ability to make independent decisions. - In-depth knowledge of a wide range of sports and their technical aspects. - Excellent written and oral communication skills; journalism background extremely helpful. - Strong command of the English language and editing skills. - Detail oriented and ability to work long hours under constant deadline pressure. - Ability to multi-task.
