POSITION: Assistant Director of Enforcement - Football Group.

Basic Function: This position is responsible for developing specific expertise in and knowledge of the football recruiting environment through monitoring, investigation, outreach and educational efforts designed to strengthen the enforcement staff's ability to monitor and enforce compliance with NCAA rules.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develop a working knowledge of the football recruiting environment and applicable NCAA legislation to effectively monitor and enforce rules compliance. In order to effectively develop the requisite knowledge:
  • Track legislative issues that may impact the sport of college football.
  • Stay current on topics of interest affecting the sport of college football.
  • Monitor and document information relevant to the sport of college football consistent with the technological practices of the football group and the enforcement department.
  • Act as a resource to NCAA enforcement staff members relating to pertinent issues involving college football.
  • Keep abreast of football recruiting practices for the periods of high school to college, college to professional leagues, and agent recruiting practices for professional leagues.

2. Develop and maintain relationships with constituents in the football recruiting environment, including college coaches, high school coaches, prospective student-athletes and their family members.
  • Attend and engage in networking activities at various football-related events throughout the year.
  • Engage in frequent communication and correspondence with various football constituents throughout the year.

3. Develop and implement investigative protocols relating to enforcement staff initiatives specific to the sport of college football.
  • Collect and analyze information and records in order to identify potential violations of NCAA recruiting rules.
  • Provide assistance and training to institutional compliance staff members in effective monitoring procedures.
  • Provide assistance and education to football coaching staff members in NCAA rules compliance.

4. Assist in investigations conducted by the major enforcement staff involving the sport of college football. When engaged in duties involving the processing of major infractions cases:
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the provisions of Bylaw 32 which govern the conduct of the enforcement staff.
  • Conduct and record (in accordance with enforcement procedures) interviews with individuals involved in or having knowledge of potential violations.
  • Prepare an accurate interview summary of the information reported during witness interviews. If an interview is transcribed, re-listen to the tape to ensure accuracy of the transcript.
  • Locate individuals who may have information about or are involved in potential violations. This requires extensive travel and expertise in using online search engines, and developing and nurturing contacts who may have such information.
  • Receive telephone reports of potential violations. These reports are placed into a written interview summary and forwarded to the supervising director.
5. Participate in other activities and projects as assigned within the enforcement department.

6. Arrange travel to the locations of assigned duties.

Preferred Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:

Essential qualifications include:
  • Baccalaureate degree (required).
  • Three-five years’ related experience
  • Well-developed analytical, oral and writing skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage various job assignments.
  • Ability to remain poised and able to think clearly in stressful circumstances.
  • Willingness to keep information confidential.
  • The ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the football recruiting environment.
