The College of Education, Health & Human Development (EHHD) is home to a wide variety of programs that fulfill Montana's land grant mission of providing services to the people of Montana and beyond. We train teachers for elementary and secondary classrooms; support grandparents who are raising their grandchildren; help soldiers and other professionals become teachers; partner with leaders on Native American reservations to develop ways to lead healthy life styles and improve education for children and adults; and we educate families on how to make healthy nutrition and physical activities choices.
The Assistant Director of Field Placement and Licensure is a multi faceted position. S/he will be responsible for office management; coordinating field placements for undergraduates locally, nationally, and internationally; and processing background checks for students entering the schools or working with children while taking courses at MSU. In addition s/he will be overseeing the processing of educator licensure for this university and also for the Office of Public Instruction.
The Assistant Director of Field Placement and Licensure will support the Director in all aspects of running the Office of Field Placement & Licensure. The individual will oversee placing students in school systems locally, in state, and out of state for their practicum and student teaching experience. The successful candidate will develop and maintain professional relationships with key lead personnel in the K-12 schools where MSU students are placed. The Assistant Director will review all applications for student teaching to evaluate eligibility for clinical experiences and to ensure that all criteria have been met. He or she will coordinate training and orientation of field supervisors and cooperating teachers for practicum and student teaching experiences. Several times a year, s/he will work with the Educational Leadership faculty and the Teacher Education faculty across campus to ensure that MSU students are prepared for licensure and certification.
Bachelor's Degree in Education or other related field plus experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Current or past license in teaching and/or educational leadership
Advanced knowledge of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and deadlines
Demonstrated ability to make presentations or give training to a diverse adult audience
Master's Degree in Education or equivalent
Knowledge of University and State rules and regulations governing the operation of teacher education and educational leadership programs
Minimum of 3 years teaching experience
The successful candidate will also have:
advanced communication skills needed to represent the department in written and verbal reports on local, state, and national levels;
the ability to take initiative and work well independently as well as collaboratively with MSU faculty, staff, and students;
an eye for details;
the ability to work collaboratively and productively with personnel in school districts and other universities to ensure appropriate placements for students.
In accordance with MSU policy, hiring will be conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
The individual in this position will need to travel both in-state and out-of-state about 10% of the time.
The successful candidate will also possess or have the ability to obtain a Montana Driver's License.
