To provide leadership to financial aid staff, including the supervision of classified employees. This position provides expert knowledge of the Banner Financial Aid Module and its relationship with other Banner Modules to oversee the daily processing of financial aid records in compliance with federal, state, institutional, and private policies and procedures. Communicates with internal and external constituents to coordinate financial aid processes with other departments, such as the Bursar, Registrar and Research and Sponsored Programs ( RSP ), and external agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Education and the Ohio Board of Regents. Writes reports using SQL to assist in the daily processing of financial aid records, establishes yearly accounts for financial aid programs with RSP , and oversees the monthly and year-end reconciliation of financial aid programs. Conduct training opportunities for Raider Connect staff on new policies and procedures within the Office of Financial Aid. Meet with private loan representatives annually to learn of new private loan product opportunities for students.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of progressive financial aid experience and extensive Banner Financial Aid experience. A strong commitment to the delivery of high quality work and meeting the needs of Wright State University students, faculty, and staff is required. Must be innovative and willing to make changes to operations when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree, five full-time professional years of experience in financial aid and extensive Banner Financial Aid experience. Supervisory experience with classified staff and a strong commitment to the delivery of high quality work and meeting the needs to Wright State University students, faculty, and staff is required. Must be innovative and willing to make changes to operations when necessary.

Essential Functions and percent of time:
40% Supervisory

  • Supervise classified staff members who are responsible for financial aid applicant processing, record maintenance, and Direct Loan and alternative loan processing
  • Train staff on new and updated federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid policies and procedures, Banner processes, SQL reports, and changes to external software programs used in financial aid processing
  • Assign work load to staff and monitor progress of assigned tasks
  • Complete staff performance appraisals and assess staff work outcomes
25% Banner-Financial Aid Module Subject Matter Expert

  • Provide daily support and trouble-shooting assistance for Office of Financial Aid staff and other Banner Financial Aid Module users
  • Prepare and deliver Banner training when requested
  • Assist in the configuration of the Banner Financial Aid Module to ensure compliance with federal, state, institutional, and private policies and procedures
  • Assist in the analyzing and re-configuration of Banner to maximize efficiency
  • Communicate with Computing and Telecommunications Services (CaTS) to ensure financial aid processes in AppWorx are accurate
  • Subscribe to the Banner Financial Aid listserv and keep abreast of Banner Financial Aid
25% Financial Aid Processing and Reconciliation

  • Continuously monitors all federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid funds for accuracy and reporting with external agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Education and the Ohio Board of Regents ( OBR )
  • Request annual accounts for financial aid programs and coordinate the monthly, term, and year-end closeout of federal and state aid programs with the Bursar, RSP , and OBR to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Oversee and assist in the daily processing of financial aid applicant records, record maintenance, and Direct Loan and alternative loan processing
  • Assign and complete HEAT Tickets for financial aid student record update requests
10% Knowledge, Collaboration, and Other Duties As Assigned such as:

  • Possess and keep current knowledge of federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs, policies, and procedures
  • Provide reporting/query support for the Office of Financial Aid by writing and running scripts using PLSQL Developer on an ad-hoc basis
  • Provide training and updates to the staff at Raider Connect for updated processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Meet with student loan lending representatives to learn of new private loan opportunities for students.
  • Conduct the annual RFI process with private lending institutions and make updates to Great Lakes FastChoice web program.
