The Office of International Affairs invites applications for a full time (1.0 FTE) Assistant Director of International Student and Scholar Services.

The Office of International Affairs iscomprised of six units; Administration, International Student & Scholar Services, Study Abroad Programs; AHA International, the Mills International Center and the component units of the forthcoming Global Studies Institute. The Vice Provost for International Affairs reports to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.

The International Student and Scholar Services section of the OIA is charged with administering programs and services for international students and faculty. These services include: oversight of visa programs; planning and coordinating orientations; advising; administering scholarships; coordinating Fulbright and other scholarship exchanges for international students pursuing studies at the UO; organizing friendship family programs; and advising for students who participate in the Academic English for International Students (AEIS) program. The University of Oregon currently enrolls over 2,500 international students from ninety countries and annually hosts approximately 250 international faculty and scholars.

General Description of the Position

The Assistant Director reports to the Director of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) and is part of a team of advisors, support staff, graduate students, volunteers, interns and student employees who assist international students and scholars. The Assistant Director of ISSS also serves as a member of the OIA Leadership Group that supports the Office of the Vice Provost with coordination of all OIA initiatives, assists the Director of ISSS with the overall administration of ISSS services and programs, administers ISSS reports and issues, serves on the ISSS budget committee, assists with student and scholar case management, professional development, training staff and supervision. The Assistant Director will assist the Director of ISSS with identifying programmatic and service needs, assist staff with program development, and act as liaison to campus colleagues departments and units to collaborate on campus-wide workshops, trainings and communications.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree required.
  • 3 years' experience required in an international office in higher education.
  • Position requires familiarity with U.S. F, J, H, PR, TN immigration regulations, must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident as mandated by federal regulations pertaining to Designated School Officials under Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) rules.
  • Demonstrated experience in ability to relate well to students, scholars, faculty, staff, and those from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use appropriate technology to plan and implement educational programs and services.
  • Must be very organized, detail oriented, be a self-starter and have strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work well on a collaborative team as well as independently.
  • This position is subject to a criminal background check.
Preferred
  • Experience with Banner and Batch in a Mac environment.
  • Significant international experience.
Salary: $46,000 - $51,000 (full time annual rate)
