Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Director of Residence Life. SIU Carbondale is a Carnegie doctoral research extensive public university with a diverse student population of over 21,000 students from throughout the United States and over 100 foreign countries. The department of University Housing is a 39 million dollar operation consisting of over 6,000 bed spaces, apartment and residence hall communities, academic initiative programs including expansive Living-Learning Community programs, and a self-operated dining service.

The Position: Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Director of University Housing - Residence Life, the Assistant Director is expected to lead an area of University Housing in its primary goal of establishing a positive, academically supportive environment for the residents of SIU Carbondale. Primary responsibilities include providing leadership and direction for an area consisting of approximately 1200 residents in eleven residence halls. This position is responsible for the supervision of three full-time, master's level Hall Directors, graduate Assistant Hall Directors, and an area office with a full-time administrative staff, Resident Assistants and student employees.

Job Responsibilities: Conduct long-range planning and goal-setting for a residential program designed to support and enhance the quality of student life in a diverse and vibrant campus setting. Coordinate formal training for full time Residence Life staff, graduate assistants and resident assistants. Provide crisis/emergency response and serve in an on-call rotation for the residential campus community. Serve as a conduct officer for the SIU Carbondale community. Participate in the recruitment and selection of full time, graduate and student staff. Collaborate with staff in other departments within the University Community. Work closely with academic departments, faculty and staff engaged in a thriving Living Learning Communities program. Actively participate and provide flexible leadership in a dynamic and ever-changing department.

Qualifications and Requirements: A master's degree and at least four academic years' live-in full-time experience in campus housing programs at the professional level (post-master's degree) at the time employment begins. A master's degree in student personnel administration, higher education, college student personnel, student affairs or related field preferred. Experience supervising master's level professional staff is preferred. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills are strongly preferred. A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment is desired.

This is a security-sensitive position. Before any offer of employment is made, the University will conduct a pre-employment background investigation which includes a criminal background check.

Compensation: $48,000 per year ($4,000 per month) for 12 months.
