George Washington Today, the university’s primary publication, is seeking an assistant editor to write and edit copy; independently develop story ideas; and help plan biweekly issues.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization, plus three years of relevant experience. Degree requirements may be substituted for an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Desired Qualifications:
Strong writing skills and experience. Ability to work independently and exercise judgement; knowledge of AP style; ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines.

Job Duties

Function:
Plans, writes, and edits news and feature stories for George Washington Today online publication.

Function:
Manages student employees with responsibilities including hiring students, assigning and tracking work, editing stories and assisting in any other way necessary.

Function:
Helps craft bi-weekly email and maintain George Washington Today website, including its section pages, calendar and archives.

Function:
Develops story ideas independently and helps plan issues, particularly focused on beat areas.

Covers multiple beats, including schools, campuses and initiatives.

Function:
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
