A leading provider of oilfield services is seeking an Assistant Financial Controller to oversee all matters of a financial nature to ensure that the finances of the company are guarded and accurately recorded to ensure management is informed with data that is clearly understood and accurate. This position will be located in downtown Houston, TX.
This position works independently and will assist in the direction of the organization’s corporate accounting functions. Areas of focus include financial reporting, accounting research and budgeting. The role assists in the development and maintenance of planning and budgeting systems, the preparation of financial and management reports and procedures, and presents findings and specific recommendations to senior management. The role is also involved in the following:
Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position
Manages and reviews general ledger reconciliations
Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits
Reviews and investigates inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
Assist in the design and implementation of systems for general accounting
Collects appropriate data for the use of federal, state, and local reports and tax returns
Assist in maintenance of all necessary 404 compliance
Will lead financial projects as well as participate in other cross organization projects
Any other duties deemed necessary by management
8- 10 years of related professional experience in public accounting is required
Direct experience of working within public accounting and/or a public company is required
Experience leading or managing accounting professionals related to financial reporting is preferred
International accounting experience preferred but not required
Extensive domestic travel required (i.e. approximately 40 – 50%)
Oilfield Services experience strongly desired
Knowledge of general accounting including thorough skills and the application of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (excel, Visio, Word, etc.)
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with all levels of the organization, including external auditors.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or finance and CPA. MBA is preferred
