Screen and characterize catalytic oxides for thermochemical water splitting under the direction of Dr. Yamazaki.
Synthesize candidate porous oxide materials via solid-state reaction or chemical solution routes. Ball milling, calcination, pellet forming, sintering processes involved.
Characterize materials: X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, mass spectroscopy, and thermochemical cycling.
Maintain and improve thermogravimetry, mass spectroscopy, impedance spectroscopy, thermochemical test station, and related equipment with detailed notes of procedures and results.
Assist in purchasing materials and tracking budget.
Prepare report documenting experimental results.
Report operational issues to appropriate members.
Bachelor degree in engineering or in related sciences.
"Hand's on" laboratory skills and experiences with instrumentation.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Must be highly organized.
Hands-on lab experiences in Solid-State Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Solid-State Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
