Full-Time, Tenure Track, 2013 Summer Term

Benedictine University is a liberal arts institution located in the research corridor of metropolitan Chicago with nationally recognized undergraduate programs in the sciences. The University is in the midst of tremendous growth in the area of life sciences and, consistent with the Universitys vision statement, the institution is making a significant commitment of resources to support these programs.

Position Descriptions: Benedictine University invites applications for two tenure-track positions within the Chemistry Department at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning June 1, 2013. However, exceptionally strong candidates deserving of the Associate Professor rank will also be considered subject to approval by the Provost. The Chemistry Department is adapting a green/environmental chemistry model for its undergraduate organic and general chemistry laboratories and is searching for candidates with strong backgrounds in undergraduate chemistry pedagogy and best laboratory practices to lead in curriculum development for these courses. The expectations are as follows:

Organic chemistry laboratory curriculum innovation and teaching of organic chemistry lecture and lab courses.

Successful candidates will establish and participate in externally funded research. Startup funds are available.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in chemistry is required with a strong preference for candidates with a degree in chemical education or a strong background in chemistry pedagogy. Research interest in chemistry pedagogy that would involve undergraduate students is expected. Teaching and postdoctoral experience is preferred and interdisciplinary experience is desirable. Candidates must have legal authority to permanently work in the USA.
