Mercer University's College of Continuing and Professional Studies invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Communication, a nine month, non-tenure track renewable position beginning August 1, 2014. The position, in the department of Liberal Studies, is based on Mercer's Atlanta campus with teaching responsibilities (seven course teaching load) on the Atlanta campus and at the University's Regional Academic Centers. The Department of Liberal Studies is an interdisciplinary department offering a B.A. in Liberal Studies, a B.A. in Communication, and general education courses in the evenings and on weekends to students in the working adult programs of the University.
Candidates will teach undergraduate courses including Interpersonal Communication, Organizational Communication, Gender Relations, Nonverbal Communication, Intercultural Communication, as well as interdisciplinary liberal studies courses. Additional responsibilities in the College include: advising students; participating in committees as assigned; attending program, departmental, College-wide and University-wide faculty meetings and events; engaging in scholarly activity; maintaining the requisite number of office hours; working collaboratively with colleagues within the department, the College, and across the academic units of the University.

The College of Continuing and Professional Studies, established in 2003, is committed to serving non-traditional students and currently enrolls more than 1,250 students. Undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs are offered to working adult learners seeking professional advancement into leadership roles in and beyond their communities. The College offers general education and elective courses for various colleges and schools. Programs are offered on Mercer's campuses in Atlanta and Macon, as well as regional academic centers in Douglas County, Henry County, Newnan and Eastman.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Communication from a regionally accredited college/university. A record of or demonstrated potential for exemplary teaching, both in the face- to- face setting and online, of adult learners at the undergraduate level is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience teaching adult learners and who have experience in the administration of non-traditional academic programs.
