Salary/Wage
Starting salary range: $53,413.02 – $83,562.16 annually. An annual stipend of $1,306 shall be paid to any faculty member who has an earned Doctorate from an accredited institution.

Academic training and teaching experience will form the basis for salary computation as determined by placement on the regular salary schedule of the College. Primary Function
The Assistant Professor, Emergency Medical Education will be primarily responsible for teaching a variety of courses in the discipline of Emergency Medical Education. The Assistant Professor will provide classroom, laboratory, hospital and field instruction for Emergency Medical Technician ( EMT ) and Paramedic courses.

Duties and Responsibilities
Instructors are expected to perform supplementary teaching responsibilities which may include curriculum planning, field and clinical scheduling, equipment and budget development, and student advising. In addition to the teaching responsibilities, other duties include maintaining regular office hours, curriculum and program development, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, full participation in department activities, and participation in college governance.

Minimum Qualifications
Must meet all of the qualifications under 1-4 below:

1. Currently licensed in the State of California as a Physician, Physician’s Assistant, Registered Nurse OR Paramedic.

2. Two years of experience in advanced life support pre-hospital care, and knowledge of the course content of the U.S. Department of Transportation Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic National Standard Curriculum HS 808 862 March 1999.

3. Must meet one of the following qualifications under a) through c):

a) Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years academic or clinical experience in emergency medicine within the previous five years.

b) Associates degree and a minimum of six years academic or clinical experience in emergency medicine, two of which must be within the previous five years.

c) A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the qualifications in either a. or b. above. Candidates who do not possess the specific minimum qualifications as stated above, which includes degrees that have not been awarded at the time of submitting the application, must complete and attach the Equivalency Qualifications Form ( www.palomar.edu/hr/forms/equivalency.pdf ).

4. Qualified by education and experience in methods, materials, and evaluation of instruction, which shall be documented by one of the following under a. through b.:

a) California State Fire Marshal ( CSFM ) “Fire Instructor 1A and 1B” or the National Fire Academy ( NFA ) “Fire Service Instructional Methodology” course or equivalent; OR

b) Sixty hours in techniques of teaching courses or four semester units of upper division credit in education materials, methods, and curriculum development or equivalent from a college or university.

Only coursework completed at, and degrees awarded by, accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered as satisfying the minimum qualifications. Candidates who have earned degrees from foreign institutions are required to submit both official translations and course-by-course evaluations of their transcripts that have been prepared by a certified U.S. credential review service that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Services ( NACES ).
