The Department of Communication at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor with teaching and research expertise in Public Relations. Ideal candidates will have the ability to teach undergraduate courses from among campaign communication (including health, political, and corporate contexts), principles of PR, PR cases, PR writing, issue management, and organizational communication. Research interests should reflect issues and concerns in the theory and practice of PR. Candidates should be prepared to contribute to curriculum development emphasizing cross-disciplinary integration of social media and new technologies. Teaching expectations are two courses per semester.
Minimum Qualifications
-Ph.D. in communication or related field -Demonstrated potential for scholarly publication and successful teaching -Potential to secure extramural funding ABD applicants will be considered, but the doctorate must be completed by the appointment date of August 10, 2013.
Preferred Qualifications
-Research focus contributing to the department's interest in public relations targeting high impact factor PR journals -Demonstrated excellence in teaching -Demonstrated excellence in scholarship -Willingness to coach students in the use of social media, new media technologies and web technologies -Work experience in public relations and/or APR certification -Willingness and ability to work in a high-tech environment
