The Department of Languages, Philosophy, & Communication Studies (LPCS) at Utah State University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Intensive English. The new faculty member would serve in the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) which resides in the LPCS Department. Responsibilities
Teach a variety of courses in Intensive English for Academic Purposes (EAP), direct an International Teaching Assistant Workshop and potentially participate in our graduate program in Second Language Teaching. Conduct and publish scholarly research. Advise and mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students. Serve in various departmental committees as needed and share responsibility for placement testing and assessment activities.
Minimum Qualifications
(1) Doctorate in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field completed by August 12, 2013; (2) demonstrated ability to effectively teach a variety of EAP courses; (3) demonstrated ability to conduct research and publish scholarly research; (4) ability and willingness to mentor students; (5) evidence of a high degree of fluency and accuracy in all aspects of spoken and written English; (6) satisfactory background check per university policy.
Preferred Qualifications
(1) Experience helping to train international teaching assistants; (2) collegial orientation and the ability to complement the current strengths of the department. (3) experience with distance education or postsecondary educational systems in an overseas setting.
