The Department of Anthropology at Colorado State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Anthropology (subdiscipline: biological). This is an entry-level, tenure-track position with a nine-month appointment, beginning August 15, 2013. The successful candidate’s research and teaching will enhance two of our existing thematic specializations, Humans and the Environment and Professional Methods and Techniques. In addition, the successful candidate will specialize in methods used to address questions concerning hominin evolution and adaptation.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related area at time of appointment
• The ability to teach biological anthropological curricula
• The potential for a promising record in scholarship/research

Preferred Qualifications

• Methods specialty is broadly defined; laboratory and/or computer based research including but not limited to multivariate quantitative methods, paleoecological reconstructions, isotopic studies, imaging techniques, hominin diet, geochemistry, and genetics
• The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level quantitative methods
• The ability to make links with the research agendas of existing faculty
• The ability to actively include undergraduates and graduates in research program
• Commitment to excellence in teaching

Responsibilities

Applicants must be able to teach part of the existing curriculum in biological anthropology, including paleoanthropological methods and quantitative methods for anthropologists, as well as develop new course content based on his/her research specialty. In addition to undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to mentor graduate students in methods and perspectives useful to hominin evolutionary research. The quality and effectiveness of the candidate’s research will be judged by his/her published record and the development of a fundable research program. The position also has a service component and participation in departmental, college, and university governance is expected.

Salary will be commensurate with assistant professor rank and experience.
