The University of Saint Joseph is seeking a full-time assistant professor who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and innovative research in the field of Human
Development and Family
Studies to begin in August 2013. The successful candidate will have academic and professional experience that effectively bridges the disciplines of research and practice in ways that are directly relevant to families and practitioners working with children, youth, elders and families in a broad range of settings. Preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and experience teaching in the areas of child and early adolescent development, gerontology, family structure and dynamics, systemic and ecological approaches and the design and evaluation of intervention methods to promote development . The applicant’s scholarship should be grounded in a clear developmental framework and his/her research methodology should align with multi-method approaches to address multi-level problems and contextual effects.

The Department of Human
Development and Family
Studies administers interdisciplinary applied undergraduate and graduate programs designed to educate students as human service professionals dedicated to the wellbeing and development of people throughout the life span and across diverse contexts. Responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service activities in the areas of family studies and lifespan growth and development with a focus on childhood and early adolescence. Additional responsibilities include advising students and participating in service to the college at the department, school, and college levels. The HDFS Department also offers collaborative teaching and research opportunities with the Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Autism and Behavior Studies graduate programs.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies, Clinical Psychology or Applied Developmental Psychology; experience in teaching/professional preparation, a record of scholarship, and in-depth experience working with children and youth in a variety of settings, as noted above.
