The Department of Linguistics at Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications for a continuing, 9-month appointment as tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2014. We seek to hire a colleague whose duties will include teaching in the BA and MA programs in Linguistics, maintaining an active independent research agenda relevant to the discipline, mentoring students, supervising student research, and engaging in service activities to assist the Department. We are seeking a broadly trained scholar with a research specialization in syntax and secondary research interest in at least two of the following areas: semantics, pragmatics, historical linguistics, sociolinguistics.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Linguistics or related field at time of application and must have demonstrated ability to conduct and disseminate research, to teach at the graduate and undergraduate level, and to supervise MA theses. Preference will be given to candidates with strong teaching credentials and demonstrated ability to teach a variety of courses in addition to their primary research specialization including a subset of the following: typology, language acquisition, phonetics, morphology, language families, introduction to linguistics, and undergraduate general education courses.
