This includes formulating original research ideas, developing research methodologies, recruiting and training funded personnel, obtaining funding through peer-reviewed mechanisms, analyzing and interpreting results, presenting at scientific meetings, and publishing, typically as first or senior author, in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. Active participation in collaborative research and teaching with the Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery / Advanced Heart Failure Research Team in the Department of Surgery, as well as participation in the teaching of graduate and/or medical students and undergraduates, is also expected. Compensation is dependent upon qualifications; this position includes a package of fringe benefits.
To be considered, an individual must possess the following required qualifications: (1) a PhD degree in the biomedical sciences; (2) a minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral experience performing research related to advanced heart failure and/or vascular regulation and responses; (3) a record of publications related to the field; (4) a demonstrated track record of participation in independent extramural funding; and (5) ability to begin appointment no later than September 1, 2012. Prior teaching and research mentorship experience is preferred. Successful candidates will need to demonstrate progress toward the establishment of a robust, extramurally-funded research program that appears reasonably well-positioned to achieve outstanding, world-class contributions to knowledge in the field of epithelial cell biology.
