The Human Nutrition Program in the Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Michigan School of Public Health, is seeking candidates for a tenure-track position in the area of Physical Activity and Nutrition. This recruitment is paired with a parallel position in the School of Kinesiology and the faculty hired into these positions will have appointments in both the Schools of Public Health and of Kinesiology.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated capability or substantial promise to develop a rigorous, externally funded research program focusing on the translation of knowledge about nutrition and physical activity to clinical and/or public health practice. Applicants at the Assistant Professor rank must demonstrate a record of high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and the potential to secure competitive, external research funding. Those applying at the Associate Professor rank must have a well-established academic record of independent scholarship, including a sustained record of high quality publications and an externally funded research program.
Priority areas include: the development and evaluation of effective programs, policies, and /or communication strategies to improve nutrition and physical activity behaviors to prevent and control obesity and related chronic diseases; methodological research on dietary, physical activity, and body composition assessment, and epidemiologic research on determinants of physical activity and nutrition outcomes and consequences across the lifecycle. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment of the University of Michigan to design and implement novel dietary and exercise interventions to control obesity and obesity-related diseases in clinical and population-based settings.
The faculty will also be expected to participate in interdisciplinary undergraduate education related to Physical Activity and Nutrition and will take an active role in student advising and the supervision of students participating in internship and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students and trainees. Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in nutritional sciences, exercise science, or related public health or medical discipline, and should have research experience in some aspect of public health nutrition, physical activity and behavior, and/or prevention and control of obesity and related chronic conditions. Candidates with research expertise in epidemiology, social sciences, environmental health or health policy are also encouraged to apply. Women and minorities are strongly urged to apply.
