Department of Counseling and Human Development Services

The Department of Counseling and Human Development Services in the College of Education at The University of Georgia seeks highly qualified candidates to fill a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The primary assignment for this position is with the School Counseling M.Ed. program at the Athens campus and will begin in 2014. The M.Ed. is a CACREP-accredited, full-time, cohort model program designed to develop data driven, social justice oriented school counselors. The program is a former site of the transforming school counseling initiative (TSCI) and students are expected to integrate their roles as both counselors and educators at school sites. All coursework and exit requirements lead to K-12 school counselor certification in the State of Georgia. Salary is competitive and includes an excellent fringe benefit package. Required
  • Doctorate in Counselor Education, School Counseling, or closely related field
  • Record of active involvement in professional organizations such as ACA, ASCA, ACES
  • Strong potential to develop program of research
  • Strong potential for or proven track record in attracting external funding
  • Strong potential for excellence in instruction and supervision
  • Commitment to social justice and to one’s own multicultural competence
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a professional counselor in order to assist with the clinical core
  • Experience as a school counselor or professional work in the schools
  • Commitment to master’s-level instruction and ability to integrate principles of multiculturalism and social justice
  • Interest in roles and responsibilities of program coordination
Desirable
  • Experience working with on-line education
  • Experience in building relationships with school districts
  • Experience in clinical supervision
  • Interest in faculty research collaboration and developing research teams
  • Interest in directing doctoral research
  • Interest in working as part of a faculty team
Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in school counseling M.Ed. program at UGA Athens campus
  • Supervise graduate students
  • Advise doctoral students
  • Assist in administrative duties as required by the program
  • Engage in research, peer-reviewed publications, and other scholarly activities
