Position Title

Assistant Professor of Meat Science

Position Summary

The Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Sciences Department at Utah State University seeks an Assistant Professor of Meat Science for a 9 month, tenure-track position. Review of applications will begin February 1st, 2013 and the position will be open until filled. The proposed start date is August 15th, 2013.

Responsibilities

This position involves a 50% Research role, with 45% Teaching, and 5% Service. Candidates will be expected to establish an extramurally-funded and nationally-recognized program of research in basic and/or applied meat science. Research areas may include, but are not limited to meat and muscle biochemistry, meat processing and meat safety, and muscle growth and development. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in the department's IFT-approved Food Science curriculum including Meat Science and another upper division course, and a graduate level course consistent with their research area of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD in Meat Science, Food Science or Animal Science with an emphasis in meat science or related area and an established track record of research in their area of focus. In addition, demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and excellent writing and communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be to individuals with the capacity to work along the interface(s) of the food science, human nutrition, and animal sciences thereby taking advantage of opportunities for collaboration within the department, the College of Agriculture, the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station and the newly established School of Veterinary Medicine. Other preferred qualifications are post-doctoral research experience, success in securing extramural funding and/or a track record of working with food companies.
