We seek an Assistant Professor of Physical Education (PE) to join our dynamic community in a period of innovation and development. The new Assistant Professor of PE has the opportunity to serve as the cornerstone for an evolving department increasingly focused on student wellness.
This full-time position involves teaching, administration, coaching, and program creation. The primary teaching responsibilities include a range of PE courses from skill-based one-credit to theory-based three-credit courses. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high quality classroom instruction and innovative pedagogy along with participating in the ongoing development of curriculum and pedagogical practices. Other desirable characteristics include familiarity with principles of universal design for instruction and learning, working as part of a cross divisional team that combines Student and Academic Affairs, and a demonstrated commitment to research and professional activities. The anticipated start date for the position is Fall 2013.
QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in Physical Education or Exercise Science/Kinesiology is highly desirable; other degrees in closely related fields considered. Experience with teaching at the college level is preferred, and a range of coaching experience is desirable. Excellent communication, organizational, and management skills are critical. A working understanding of the nature of specific learning disabilities in a classroom setting is desirable as is evidence of scholarship in the field, particularly in terms of programs that can involve undergraduate students. The ability to work collaboratively across departments and divisions to serve students is essential.
