Summary of Position:
NAST accredited program seeks a dedicated teacher/mentor of design to join a dynamic faculty and staff as instructor of stagecraft, play production, stage management, scene design, lighting design and other advanced courses as required by the discipline and department or within the candidate's area of expertise. The candidate will also be called upon to teach introduction to theatre and/or film history courses as needed. The successful candidate will work with the Chairperson to incrementally develop a curriculum that reflects advances in design technologies and pedagogy. Annual production duties would include designing scenery (or supervising student and guest designers), lighting (or supervising student and guest designers) or other design duties as decided in consultation with the Chairperson. Participation in the broader life of this urban research university via committee assignments, recruiting and advising are expected.
MFA (PhD considered) in Scenic and Lighting Design with a secondary emphasis in Sound Design
Demonstrated abilities in teaching, mentoring, service, and creative scholarship
Demonstrated and ongoing creative agenda in professional theatre/television/film design and production
Demonstrated knowledge and use of computer-aided drafting software (i.e. CAD, Vectorworks, Google Sketchup)
MFA (PhD considered) in Scenic and Lighting Design with a secondary emphasis in Sound Design plus at least one year of college/university teaching, mentoring, service, and creative scholarship in the tenure track.
Demonstrated interest in projected scenography would be considered a plus.
Demonstrated design for both musical theater and dance would be considered a plus.
Demonstrated properties design skills would be considered a plus.
Professional union membership would be considered a plus.
International affiliations would be considered a plus.
