Virginia Tech is seeking and experienced space planning and design professional to promote the effective use and improvement of academic instructional and research space. Working within the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost, the chief academic officer of the institution, the Assistant Provost for Academic Space will use existing data and create new information resources to inform campus planning and priority setting. The Assistant Provost will serve as a campus wide expert and advocate for effective use and improvement of shared academic spaces including classrooms, instructional laboratories and research laboratories. In that role, the Assistant Provost will participate in long-range capital planning processes, building committees and campus master planning activities. The Assistant Provost will also solicit, review, recommend and oversee to completion specific classroom and laboratory renovation projects funded by the Provost. In addition, this position will oversee the assignment and management of approximately 240,000 gross square feet in six campus buildings managed directly by the Provost.
A bachelorâ??s degree in, architecture, interior design, facility/space management or a closely related field. Demonstrated ability to access and manipulate large datasets, conduct analyses and prepare summary reports. Demonstrated experience in project management from design through project completion and occupancy. Ability to summarize and clearly communicate information and recommendations in written and spoken forms appropriate for the senior management of the institution.
An MBA or other Masterâ??s Degree in a related field. Experience working with space planning, design or management within a complex environment. Experience with innovative planning and design of instructional environments. Demonstrated experience that shows an ability to work within a complex organization, build collaborative relationships and to advocate effectively within that larger environment.
