Assistant Rail Supervisor

Full Time Position Salaried Exempt

Major Responsibilities
  • Assigns work to Railcar Load and Unload crew and directs their work processes
  • Trains new associates and temporary workers in the rail loading/unloading process
  • Advises Rail Supervisor of problems that may hinder production or that are related to the crew and need a Supervisor’s intervention
  • Performs daily preventative maintenance, to include but not limited to lubrication of springs, hinges, pins and all rail equipment, set brakes, open doors
  • Sets-up chains and chocks for customer vehicle loading
  • Using a power blower, cleans rail car decks of debris
  • Opens rail car doors in preparation for vehicle loading and unloading
  • Reacts to change productively
  • Any duties as assigned
  • Conducts himself or herself in a manner that maintains a positive work atmosphere through positive communication and professional and ethical behavior to build and maintain excellent working relationships with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management
  • Good and regular attendance
  • Ability to work in a variety of situations
  • Positive demeanor
  • Various duties as assigned or required to help the facility function as a team environment
  • Read and understand VIN numbers, AAR Manual, and other documents to insure proper rail car preparation has been completed
  • Understand and enforce TLX policy and Company safety policies
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Communicate problems to Rail Supervisor

Minimum Requirements
  • Work experience involving vehicle loading and unloading rail operations and/or rail prep work
  • Knowledge of the use of hand tools (i.e., wrenches, screw drivers, ratchets, etc.)
  • Ability to read and speak English
  • Must have a good sense of balance
  • Ability to work at a height approximately 15 feet above the ground
  • Good vision
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to pass with 80% accuracy the TLX Safe Driving, Buck Ramp, and Rail Safety quizzes
  • Ability to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Six months experience in rail loading environment
  • Six months experience supervising or leading others
  • Must be safety conscious; able to recognize unsafe conditions and motivated to reduce hazards
  • Ability to lead others, w ork in a team environment, and provide performance feedback
  • Must be able to obtain e-RAILSAFE clearance
