Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field required with three plus years edible oils refinery operating experience is required
  • Prior supervisory/management experience is required
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills, including Lotus Notes, Microsoft Word and other technical software packages, as needed

  • Job Description:

    The Assistant Refinery Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the refining facility reporting to the Refinery Manager. The Assistant Refinery Manager will be knowledgeable in various policies and procedures as well as effectively analyze a wide array of situations. Situations may include emergencies and/or employee injuries and illnesses with employees the Assistant Refinery Manager is responsible for effectively leading others in the execution of proper actions to correct or mitigate a particular situation. Promoting and sustaining an accident free and productive work environment is paramount to the successful management of the day to day operations of the facility.

    Essential Functions
    • Develop, promote and enforce safety in the workplace by actively ensuring employees work safely by setting and personally demonstrating safe work habits.
    • Conduct individual safety training, new operator orientation, employee training and operating procedures, reviews and updates
    • Manage the department to achieve plant and divisional safety objectives and promote a zero incident culture
    • Develop and maintain an open line of communication with employees by demonstrating credibility, willingness to listen, taking action when appropriate and responding to all concerns
    • Conduct and direct group training as well as individual employee training on procedures, safety, productivity and quality
    • Work effectively through others to achieve positive, consistent and continually improving results in each area of the Refinery
    • Effectively communicate employee labor relations and disciplinary matters to Refinery Manager and Human Resources and actively participate in the resolution of disciplinary matters
    • Maintain focus on customer service through on time and in spec shipments
    • Coordinate daily commercial loading and unloading requirements of railroad cars, trucks and barges
    • Monitor oil load out activities including wastewater to comply with all environmental standards set by local, state and federal guidelines
    • Maintain optimum quality and consistency of oil products to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations
    • Mechanical Systems and Maintenance Department Interface
    • Responsible for mechanical systems and maintenance department interface
    • Participate and contribute to the AIB/Food Safety Program
    • Maintain high GMP and sanitation standards for the operation including acceptable AIB and SQF ratings
    • Develop financial controls including budgets and forecasting and demonstrate continuous improvements in KPI’s
    • Manage workforce and staffing requirements
    • Interact with the Refinery Manager to communicate status of operations. It is expected that the Assistant Refinery Manager will spend significant time in all operational areas of the refining facility talking with employees, inspecting equipment, inspecting areas for cleanliness, proper operations and maintenance activities
    • Ensure that the needs of the Packaging facility are met through collaboration and unified decision making between refining and packaging
    • The Assistant Refinery Manager will also perform other duties as assigned and recognize that priorities may and will likely shift quickly to adjust to the demands of other departments for the overall benefit of the organization
    • It must be recognized that assigned shift rotations may change
