Description of Position

University Housing at the University of Oregon is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant Residence Life Coordinator. The Assistant Residence Life Coordinator, a live-in professional staff member, plays a significant role in the creation and implementation of an academic environment for the residents residing within their hall. The Assistant Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for developing a community that enhances the academic experience of each student and provides for personal and community development in collaboration with other staff in University Housing, the Division of Student Affairs, and other campus partners.

A hall may vary in size form 150-800 students, and to assist in implementing this vision, the Assistant Residence Life Coordinator assists the supervision of 6-10 student staff, and may also assist in the daily supervision of up to 5 Freshman Interest Group (FIG) Academic Assistants. The Assistant Residence Life Coordinator will collaborate with the Residence Life Leadership Team and reports directly to the Residence Life Coordinator for that area.

The intention of this position is to professionally explore Student Affairs as a career.

This is a full-time, live-in, 12-month, Officer of Administration position and is subject to a criminal background check. The starting date for the position is flexible beginning July 28, 2014.

Required Experience & Education
  • Accredited Bachelor’s Degree

  • Two years of experience as a student staff member or student leader

  • Commitment to diversity and social justice

  • Experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, group dynamics, crisis management and problem solving skills

  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective and collaborative working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds

  • Experience interacting and collaborating with paraprofessional staff

  • Understanding of living-learning communities

Preferred Experience & Education
  • Ability to articulate a philosophy and approach to supporting & developing residential students

  • Ability to collaborate with faculty in creating an academic environment in a residential setting

  • Experience in the areas of student leadership and advising

  • Interest in Student Affairs as a profession

Compensation: The remuneration for the position is based on qualifications and expertise, ranging from $23,660-25,500, and includes a furnished apartment, meal plan during the time the halls are open, and Officer of Administration benefits, including medical insurance, retirement, and reduced tuition.
