This position serves as assistant resident engineer, supervising employees responsible for stakeout and inspection of roads and structures in contract construction. Promote safe working environment. Possess working knowledge of DOT policies and procedures. Duties also include keeping records necessary for preparation of monthly estimates and final estimates. A Valid NCDL is required. Safety toe shoes are required with 30 days of hiring.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Working knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods, materials and equipment. Skill in the operation of survey equipment, computer terminals and drafting instruments. Ability to understand, explain and administer contracts, interpret construction plans, provision, standards and specifications. Must be proficient at plan reading, highway engineering calculations and survey instruments necessary to supervise the stake-out of line and grade for roadways and structures. Must be able to communicate with contractors to ensure compliance with contract, plans, standards and specifications Communicate, establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, contractors’ personnel and general public. Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing project inspections. Train, coordinate and supervise lower level transportation technicians.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina board of examiners for engineers and surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. . .
