BASIC ASSIGNMENT :

To instruct and coach the Swim Team in accordance with the YMCA and/or U.S.A. Swimming guidelines, to ensure the safety of participants, and to use good judgment in decision making or in potentially hazardous situations.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Must be 16 years of age
  • Must have current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
  • Must have current First Aid certification
  • Two (2) years experience competitive swimming
  • Ability to become certified in YMCA Swim Lessons program within 90 days of hire.
  • DESIRABLE:

  • Lifeguard certification
  • YMCA or WSI Swim Lesson certification
  • Safety training for Swim Coaches


  • EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS :

    The following requirements for employment are:

  • Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting for work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Ability and desire to work with children and parents/volunteers.


  • RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Enforcing safety rules while coaching.
  • Report to work as scheduled and be prepared to coach on time.
  • Maintain control of participants in the pool and locker room.
  • Keep informed on team happenings and be available to answer parents concerns and questions.
  • Always promote an encouraging, healthy atmosphere for team participants.
  • Report maintenance requests and equipment needs to the Head Coach.
  • Responsible for assisting with monthly swim meets and organizing and implementing swim competition.
  • Responsible for maintaining the necessary equipment.
  • Ensure adequate registration for all participants.
  • Conduct swim-tryouts as needed.
  • Provide corrective feedback in a positive manner.
  • Promote the mission, goals, and objectives of the YMCA.
