Job Description

The Assistant Vice President – Investments and Insurance Tax, sets strategy and policies and procedures for calculating and tracking investment tax adjustments for $400 billion of investments, derivatives, company owned real estate and fixed assets. The position works with Finance management to develop and implement system approaches for calculation and tracking of investment adjustments. A key focus area will be to maintain documentation of investment tax adjustments to support tax positions in the event of a review by tax authorities. The position is responsible for managing the preparation of tax provisions and tax returns for MetLife Insurance Company of Connecticut and reinsurance companies and for calculating the separate account dividend received deductions for domestic insurance companies.
Principal Responsibilities

Calculating and tracking of US and foreign tax adjustments for $400 billion of investments and fixed assets, including fixed maturity and equity securities, derivatives, commercial mortgages and consumer loans, equity real estate, corporate joint ventures, partnerships, tax credit investments, corporate real estate, and fixed assets.

Partner with Investment Accounting to redesign tax processes and implement new systems for calculation and tracking of US and foreign investment tax adjustments

Provide detailed support of investment adjustments in response to information requests from tax authorities

Manage compliance and tax provisions for US Federal income tax returns for domestic insurance and reinsurance companies

Provide advice of tax impact from investment transactions

Develop tax opportunities and communicate to senior management with concise recommendations for approval.

Builds collaborative relationships by demonstrating very strong interpersonal, presentation, organizational, analytical and project management skills.

Leads a team of twelve and effectively develops and manages talent

Job Requirements

Twelve plus years of corporate or public accounting tax experience

Background in tax accounting and financial reporting for tax

Experience with project management and process improvement

Five plus years of supervisory experience leading staff activities, setting clear objectives, and developing talent

Experience Required
