POSITION : Assistant/Associate Professor, Department of Foods and Nutrition (12-month, tenure-track appointment)

RESPONSIBILITIES : Responsibilities include: 1) developing a nationally recognized and extramurally funded research program; 2) teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in nutrition; 3) advising and mentoring nutrition science undergraduate and graduate students; 4) service to the public, the university including departmental governance, and the profession.

QUALIFICATIONS : All applicants must have a PhD in nutrition or closely-related scientific field. The applicant should have demonstrated research productivity and have academic experience in basic nutritional sciences. A minimum of one year of post-doctoral research experience is required.

THE DEPARTMENT AND THE UNIVERSITY : The Department of Foods and Nutrition is a unit of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at The University of Georgia, a Research Land-grant university. The Department has 21 faculty, 380 undergraduate students majoring in Dietetics, Nutrition Science and Consumer Foods, 21 Masters students and 10 Doctoral students. The Department has strong ties and opportunities for interdisciplinary research with programs in Animal and Dairy Science, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Kinesiology, Food Science and Technology, Gerontology, Health Promotion, Pharmacy, Public Health, Toxicology, Veterinary Medicine, The Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute ( http://biomed.uga.edu/ ) and other biological sciences. The recently developed UGA Obesity Initiative ( http://obesity.uga.edu/ ) has created abundant interdisciplinary opportunities for collaboration in research, teaching and service. Georgia Health Sciences University, formerly The Medical College of Georgia, and the University of Georgia have partnered to create a four-year medical education program in Athens, providing additional clinical research possibilities ( http://medicalpartnership.uga.edu/ ). SALARY : Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
