ASSISTANT to the PRESIDENT
Working directly with the President and staff in the
President's Office located in Latham, New York, the individual selected for
this position will be expected to provide leadership and initiative in
developing and instituting comprehensive strategies to frame, deliver and
communicate consistent message and voice, both internally and externally, in an
effective manner across a broad spectrum of media.
The incumbent will be directly involved in all aspects of organizational
operations with a concentration of activities centering around communications,
technology and research, as well as have responsibility for some aspects of
governance and interaction with our national affiliates, the American Federation
Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA).
Qualified candidates will have demonstrable knowledge of the
issues facing public education – pre-kindergarten through higher education –
and the American labor movement. The
ideal candidate will have strong writing, editing and interpersonal
communications skills, as well as progressively responsible experience in an
organizational communications or public relations capacity along with proven
experience in media relations, communications, and social media. Experience managing or leading a
communications team is a plus.
A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or a related
communications field is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
Some travel is expected.
