The Associate Data Center Operations Technician is responsible for the deployment of Data Center computing equipment and associated infrastructure equipment.

An individual in this position works under the direction of the Data Center Operations supervisor in coordinating all resources necessary for accurate and on-time completion of the workload for the assigned with proper supervision. The technician will be required to work without supervision when necessary.

The Associate Data Center Technician must communicate effectively with all levels of the Infrastructure Operations staff, as well as personnel from the other divisions. A general knowledge of internal procedures and regulations pertaining to the Enterprise is also required.

Nature & Scope
The incumbent must have the ability to quickly absorb in-depth information regarding micro and mainframe computer hardware, micro and mainframe computer application software, internal procedures and regulations pertaining to all programs administered by the customer. The incumbent must have the ability to communicate well with external and internal customers.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY

1. Ability to communicate effectively with equipment vendors and Plan personnel.
2. Demonstrated ability in a data center environment with hardware installations, cable and circuit testing, cable terminations, hardware replacement and deployment of Operating Systems.
3. Above average investigative and analytical skills, ability to absorb technical information quickly, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 4. Ability to make timely and accurate decisions.
5. Ability to self-educate in the area of Data Center infrastructure and hardware.
6. Strong inter-personal and telephone skills.

The incumbent is responsible for accepting problems reported by customers, assisting in the analysis of the problem and coordinating resolution of the problem. The incumbent will interface with appropriate plan personnel to resolve problems. The Associate Data Center Operations Technician will log problems, analyze recurring problems to identify trends and make recommendations regarding preventive measures.

Some travel will be required for problem resolution, and technical training.

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining departmental records and reports and is responsible for meeting all established Data Center standards.

Data Center Operations is comprised of a team within Infrastructure Operations charged with the day-to-day activity of maintaining the production workload through the data center 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and assisting in project planning for all data center installation projects.

To effectively perform the responsibilities of this position, the Associate Data Center Operations Technician is directly guided by the visions and goals of the Enterprise and the Enterprise mission statement. Additionally, the Associate Data Center Operations Technician seeks guidance from the Data Center Operations Technician, Lead Data Center Operations Technician, and the Data Center Operations Supervisor.

Challenges
The greatest challenge for the individual in this position is to ensure continuity of operations and the accurate and timely completion of scheduled installations.

Interfaces
The Associate Data Center Operations Technician routinely interfaces with other IT teams to assist them with problem resolution. The individual in this position must also possess superior interpersonal skills in order to efficiently manage various relationships that must be maintained.

Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements - Level 1

1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university (prefer degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Data Processing, or Business Information Systems) with a minimum of 24 semester hours in computer, analytical, data processing, or related studies.

OR

1. Prior experience in a data center operations and/or data communications, hardware support, OS installation environment and proficient in Fiber connectivity, CISCO equipment, SAN/local storage equipment, and cross platform hardware.

AND

2. Experience with Windows and Windows-based spreadsheet and word- processing software.

3. Experience with data center hardware, OS installations, and cabling.

4. Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs.

Segregation of duties will be used to ensure that errors or irregularities are prevented or detected on a timely basis by employees in the normal course of business. This position must adhere to the segregation of duties guidelines in the Administrative Manual.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES OR ACCOUNTABILITIES (Essential Functions of Job)
1. Assist in the resolution of hardware or cabling problems reported by the customer.
2. Coordinate installations with customers.
3. Maintain problem or order status reports and submit on a weekly basis to the Supervisor of Data Center Operations for analysis.
4. Maintain Inventory and Decommissioning of equipment.
5. Keep customers informed regarding status of their installations.
6. Perform any other job related duties as required.
7. Power Cycling (turning equipment on and off)
8. Toggling a switch; pushing buttons
9. Securing cabling to connections
10. Observing, describing or reporting on indicators or display information on equipment or consoles
11. Basic observation and reporting on the environment in the data center
12. General knowledge of power distribution systems.
13. Ability to keep abreast of emerging Data Center technology through business periodicals and other business related publications.
14. Must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational, and judgment skills in addition to organizational vision.
