PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This position will be responsible for learning and mastering business improvement methodology (the concepts of Lean/Six Sigma) in order to participate and contribute to business improvement initiatives throughout the GICS organization. In supporting their lead manager, the incumbent will participate in efforts to 1) evaluate and recommend improvements in existing business processes; 2) evaluate our ability to support new business (new products, new instrument types, new markets, etc); and 3) actively promote and support the ongoing rollout of the T. Rowe Price Business Process Improvement (BPI) methodology (utilizing the concepts of Lean/Six Sigma). The position supports global, cross-functional and multi-phased initiatives.
New business opportunities – Under the guidance of their lead manager, the incumbent will be responsible for researching and assisting in evaluating the readiness and capabilities of our systems, processes and associates globally to effectively support new products, instruments & markets, or significant increases in activities in these areas. Associates in this role will:
Participate in meetings with senior investment, marketing, legal & risk management staff internally, and subject matter experts at peer firms, broker/dealers and custodian banks externally
Research and obtain materials such as “primers”, market profiles and other background information to assist our functional managers in understanding the nature of any such new business opportunities
Understand operational risk associated with new business opportunities by assisting their lead manager in completing a formal risk assessment
Participate in cross-functional and cross-divisional discussions
Business process improvement – Associates in this role will be required to obtain T. Rowe Price Business Process Improvement (BPI) certification (or an external equivalent). The incumbent will directly support their lead manager and functional managers across GICS to evaluate and continually improve our business processes in all regions globally. This includes:
Within assigned engagements, leveraging BPI tools and methodology by:
Documenting current state workflows and evaluating process steps as “value-added” versus “non-value-added”
Gathering and organizing data (e.g., process cycle times; volumes; productivity measurements; etc) on current processes
Using histograms, pareto charts, and other data analysis tools and evaluate current state processes
Identifying potential process improvement opportunities
Working with his/her lead manager and functional lead managers to successfully support the implementation of any such recommendations
Learning effective change management skills to assist in supporting change within target functional teams.
Industry benchmarking – The position actively monitors key industry issues & events, and actively benchmarks GICS operational capabilities by conducting formal surveys, and participating in discussions with peer firms. The position begins to develop a breadth of industry knowledge with the goal of becoming a subject matter expert for other associates in the division.
High school diploma/equivalent and 2 years related work experience, or
Associate degree and 1 year related work experience, or
Ability to work collaboratively with others in team environment
Motivated self-starter and a fast learner
Works well under pressure
Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Excellent process analysis and process management skills
Ability to influence others
Strong PC skills
College degree in engineering
College degree (any major), with 2 years work experience in financial services with demonstrated process change / process analysis skills
Basic understanding of business process improvement concepts
