Horizon Milling LLC, a joint venture between Cargill and CHS, is seeking an Associate Accountant Staff team member for our Wichita, KS financial office. This position is in our Grain Accounting Department. We are looking for someone who is a self starter, curious to learn more than taught, can quickly adapt to a fast pace environment, and is able to see the broad perspective of the position. Additionally, we are looking for someone who can promote and reinforce a team environment which includes discussing relevant issues, helping solve problems, and championing change.

Assists the department in monitoring daily activities and serves as a resource for the department. Work with the team to make sure requests are expedited for Federal exams and ensure that we are in compliance, weigh ups are completed and control reviews are maintained.

This is a training role for associate accountants to learn the risk management of the business. The intent is to use this as a rotational role with intent to move and relocate if needed.

Principal Accountabilities:
30% Daily responsibilities: Complete audit verifications from suppliers, approve payment vouchers and transfer of funds, ensure collection of misc invoices. Review and follow-up on positions and daily mill packets-tracking trends and system issues. Balance daily positions with the merchandising team. Manage stock register vs position variance and maintenance with IT. Grain purchase contract management and verification.

25% Month end responsibilities: Gross Margins, inventory and contract valuations, balance sheets, webcom for intercompany balances.

30% Regulatory responsibilities: Work with Federal Warehouse License team to ensure we are USDA compliant on licenses for Fed and State. Government report processing. Mill 30þd Exams and weigh-ups. Internal Control reviews. Audit reviews

15% General: Process Improvement projects with grain team, merchandising, and other areas of accounting as needed.


Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with an emphasis in accounting

Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work effectively on teams

Willingness to be adaptable to new roles and assignments including potential relocation

Effective communication with superiors, peers and subordinates.

Technical PC skills including Microsoft excel

Organizational and time management skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities, work as part of a team and be self-motivated

Works well under pressure to meet daily and month end deadlines

Good verbal and written communication skills

Experience with data retrieval and downloads from outside databases

Advanced skills with Microsoft excel
