Under direction, to perform a variety of technical, specialized, and responsible archival tasks in support of Special Collections division activities. Exercises technical and functional supervision over clerical and part time staff.
Examples of Duties:
Performs a variety of tasks and research in the historical and archival field;
Assists in locating books and archival materials;
Processes and maintains materials for historical files;
Processes and maintains materials for all collections according to archival standards;
Performs detailed research for City departments, local patrons, long distance scholars, and other historians for reports, projects, and publications;
Provides reference information on historical issues and questions for local businesses, the press, and other groups in the community;
Participates in collection development for the Heritage Room and the Shrine with potential donors;
Provides tours of the library and the Lincoln Memorial Shrine;
Delivers verbal presentations to civic and community groups on a variety of topics related to local history and Abraham Lincoln;
Mends various materials, including maps, manuscripts, and photos using archival tape;
Researches original manuscripts;
Writes articles and co-edits the Lincoln Memorial Newsletter;
Assists with production and distribution;
Develops and assists in the production of public relations materials for the Shrine and Heritage Room;
Reviews, evaluates, and recommends new and rare historical materials for purchase;
Assumes responsibility for Heritage room and Shrine financial records and accounts, and for division time sheets for paid employees; and
Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Two years of paid or volunteer experience working with historical materials and their maintenance. Education:
A Master's degree from an accredited college or university with course work in history, archival studies, or a related field. Licenses and Certificates:
