Job Description

Brief Description This position is responsible for oversight of the Clinical Trials Accounting, Commercial Accounting and Cost Accounting Functions. The position supervises an accounting team. This position is a key business partner of Onyx's main collaborator, Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation. This position will also be responsible for drafting and implementing accounting policies and procedures and implementing process improvements. Description This position is responsible for oversight of the Clinical Trials Accounting, Commercial Accounting and Cost Accounting Functions. The position supervises an accounting team with general responsibilities that include managing monthly accounting closes, SOX compliance, coordinating annual audits and interim reviews with the outside auditors and compliance with all external reporting requirements. This position is a key business partner of Onyxs main collaborator, Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation, including the analysis, preparation and review of quarterly invoices from / to Bayer. This position will also be responsible for drafting and implementing accounting policies and procedures and implementing process improvements.

Essential/Primary Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Manages the day-to-day accounting operations related to Clinical Trials, Commercial and Cost Accounting functions. Own the financial relationship with Onyxs principal collaborator, Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation. Review and analyze quarterly billings from Bayer and ensure Onyx quarterly billings to Bayer are prepared in accordance with Collaboration Agreement. Review and assist the VP, Finance, Director of FP&A and CFO with the performance against budget as it relates to the collaboration and analyze the quarterly billings Responsible for clinical and collaboration accounting to ensure all clinical and collaboration accounting and reporting requirements are executed Responsible for development of Cost Accounting function, ensuring processes and systems are in place to appropriately record amounts in accordance with GAAP. Design and supervise accounting for third party distribution vendor Supervises accounting staff (3 employees directly, 6 in total) Manages and facilitates all monthly and quarterly general ledger closes Perform reviews of transactions and monthly account reconciliations prepared by accounting staff Prepare and issue periodic financial reports to management, including analyzing financial information and investigating key variances Identifies and resolves accounting and/or financial technical issues including research for complex accounting matters, Sarbanes-Oxley and FASB compliance Works closely with Director of Financial Planning & Analysis Responsible for developing and maintaining accounting policies Assist with writing technical accounting papers and writing accounting policies and procedures as needed Identify and implement process improvements, particularly in accrual process and future phases of ERP Implementation Support development of methodology of accounting for pharmaceutical product sales including Gross to Net adjustments. Qualifications

Requirements

Work Experience
8 to 10 plus years in corporate finance/accounting. Big 4 public accounting, publicly traded corporation and biotech industry experience a plus. Demonstrated working knowledge of SEC reporting and disclosure requirements Strong knowledge of GAAP and SOX compliance Management of Staff

Ability to hire, recruit, train and mentor staff Ability to structure department to align with corporate growth

Functional/Technical Knowledge & Skills

Masterful Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills required Excellent systems and operational skills, including proficiency with PCs, Microsoft Products including Word. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX and TM1 a plus. Customer & Industry Knowledge:

Exceptional accounting, finance and analytical skills. Education/Training:

Requires a BS/BA in accounting or finance. License/Certification Required:

CPA preferred. Other Requirements

Energetic, flexible team player with the ability to adapt in a changing environment. Must have excellent business judgment and posses strong problem solving skills. Requires excellent communication skills, written and oral, through all levels of the organization. Strong time management and organizational skills. Detail-orientated, works accurately and quickly.
