Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus four years of professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

The Associate Director assesses the focus and scope of client events. They direct all event driven activities to develop and promote events by working with clients to assess, recommend, and develop needs based on the client’s desired outcomes for events. They oversee the logistics of their events to include advising clients on the use of facilities, audiovisual services, computer networking, catering, and support staff services to achieve a successful event outcome.
The Associate Director independently evaluates, selects and authorizes work performed by outside media sources and vendors. They negotiate and sign contracts which bind The George Washington University in acquiring services such as facility needs, audiovisual services, computer networking, catering, and support services per the needs of the client. They are the primary decision maker in determining last minute changes to vendor selection and contracts.
The Associate Director supervises staff and contractors including vendors, outside contractors, housekeeping, audio/visual staff and student event staff. They direct activities performed by internal and external contracts, and develop and communicate promotional information on events. Authorizes work performed by outside media sources and vendors.
Develops productive working relationships and works closely with department heads to ensure the success of the events and the seamless support of attendees.
The Associate Director develops and communicates event documents and logistical instructions to venue staff, including serving as the on-site manager during events. They meet with venue staff to establish procedures aimed at improving the quality of service provided to clients.
The Associate Director prepares and submits post-event evaluation reports recommending methods to improve procedures.
The Associate Director serves as the back up to the Senior Associate Director of Client Services in addressing complex planning issues that may arise with events, conferences and meetings held in External Relations venues.
Manages overall event planning activities to ensure the timely delivery of services to clients and to ensure that External Relations and Events & Venues goals and objectives are met. Manages crowd control, catering and audiovisual.
Continually assesses services to recommend and implement policies and procedures aimed at enhancing the quality of services.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
