The Associate Director, Communication will be the communications professional with the broad knowledge, skills and experience necessary to assist the Director, Communication in developing, coordinating and implementing communication and public relations strategies for a medical school and its associated consortium of teaching hospitals, the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education ( CORE ). Operating with a sense of institutional branding, organizational priorities and with an understanding of how communications strategically help medical schools meet their mission;, this position develops, manages and implements communications solutions for audiences of strategic importance to OU- HCOM . This position manages and supervises a number of communication office staff members to carry out day-to –day, routine communications efforts of OU- HCOM and the CORE , as well as responding to special circumstances and filling in for the director, as necessary. The associate director should have excellent, diverse writing skills, and should be able to write and edit promotional text, press releases, scripts and more. Project conceptualization and writing includes admission recruitment materials, development communications, faculty and research communications, internal communications, community health programs patient/participant recruitment and promotion and more.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
*Develops content, writes and edits as necessary for a breadth of print and electronic publications for both OU- HCOM and CORE . May include content for Ohio University Medicine magazine and other similar university publications; brochures and promotional materials; web site and social media content; internal communications such as digital signage and ROUNDS , the college’s internal newsletter; press releases, fact sheets and media advisories; recruitment pieces for students/residents/patients/researchers; event communications; exhibits; and more. Edits materials from other units within OU- HCOM prior to publication. (50%)
*Supervises two writers/editors, a multimedia manager, a photographer and student employees and helps coordinate workflow within the office. Manages projects. Assures highest standards are met in messaging, writing, editing, design and appropriateness of content or platform. Operates under appropriate ethical and legal guidelines. (40%)
*Other duties as assigned. (10%)
*7+ years in public relations and/or communications field.
*Demonstrated experience in higher education communications and/or communications in health care environment.
*Demonstrated experience in managing and supervision of staff members.
*Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or related field.
*Knowledge skills and abilities of an experienced communications professional. *Applicants should demonstrate experience in communication planning and project management, marketing communications, event communications, earned media, digital media and more.
